"Grey's Anatomy" Season 12 star Kevin McKidd recently opened up about his character Owen Hunt and Nathan Riggs' (Martin Henderson) past.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, McKidd dished on what Owen could be thinking now that Nathan is already working at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

"It's brought up a lot of stuff for Owen. It really triggers him. He's not ready to talk about it, but something obviously dreadful and awful has happened between he and Riggs. We will find that out. I can't tell you what it is, because that would spoil it. But it really triggers a lot of that darkness," he said.

McKidd also revealed that he's happy to be portraying two sides to his character.

"I love getting to play that. Owen's at his best sometimes when he's in his darkest and twistiest state. This definitely gets him here. It's a big shot of the past that comes back to really ignite Owen," he added.

Meanwhile, "Grey's Anatomy" Season 12's fall finale episode revealed more details about the two male characters' past. McKidd previously said that these details will be revealed on a per episode basis.

"The audience will definitely get more information next week. We're going to get more, but not all of it, and not the key elements to it. We're going to get very enticing hints next week, and hints that people will be able to draw their own conclusions. The actual spelling out of what happens is going to be saved until we come back," he said.

"Grey's Anatomy" Season 12 will return with all new episodes after its winter hiatus starting Feb. 11, according to The Wrap. As of late, it is still unclear when the series will air its finale episode for the season.

"Grey's Anatomy" Season 12 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
