For Marvel fans, Chris Hemsworth's built is that of a god; A Norse god. He is known to play a superhero hunk, indestructible and immortal. But he recently transformed for a role and he looks nothing like the 'Mighty Thor.'

In the upcoming epic historical adventure thriller drama 'In the Heart of the Sea,' 32-year-old Hemsworth plays a 19th-century sailor stranded at sea.  As a vital part of his character, he had to slim down tremendously for the film.

On his Twitter account he posted a barely recognizable photo of himself, topless and stripped down a lot of pounds, with unruly hair and a full beard, and a tan that is not even, to say the least. He captioned it wittily saying, "Just tried a new diet/training program called "Lost At Sea". Wouldn't recommend it.. #IntheHeartoftheSea" His post has been retweeted almost 3,000 times and has earned more than 5,300 favorites.

In his interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor shared his tedious effort to lose weight. After having to slim down for his previous flick 'Black Hat,' it was almost unbearable for him to shed the last 15 pounds for 'In the Heart of the Sea.' He told EW, "When you're already starting off lean, its brutal to chew through that kind of weight. Every pound feels like a kilogram."

The Marvel actor plays the real-life first officer Owen Chase who was among the crew of the whaling ship Essex that got stranded after it had been attacked by a gigantic bull sperm whale. Based on true events, the ship sunk and  the crew was stuck at sea for 90 days, very far away from land.

The film which is based from Nathaniel Philbrick's non-fiction book with the same title is scheduled to be released this year, on December 11.
