With the release of Xbox One's most recent update known as 'New Xbox One Experience,' Microsoft has presented backwards compatibility with Xbox 360 titles. According to Gamespresso, since November 12th, over 100 titles are already playable using the new console and users can expect more to be added in the future. The said feature was a part of the major Windows 10 update for the Xbox One. A lot of gamers would surely rejoice with this news, but those who are looking to play their 'seasoned' games from the original Xbox on Xbox one might need to wait for a long time, according Mike Ybarra, director of program management for Xbox. Ybarra discussed the subject on the The Inner Circle podcast, hinting that it is currently unlikely for this update to happen.
"We're not looking at original Xbox games on Xbox One yet," Ybarra said. "Right now the focus is making more Xbox 360 games to work. [Xbox games are] certainly very challenging. Getting Xbox 360 games to work was incredibly challenging and really a multi-year engineering investment."
But Xbox is not closing their doors to this possibility, as the team that develops backwards compatibility engineering loves challenging tasks. "I'm sure they would love that one as an opportunity to go look at," he added.
Last August, Microsoft's current head for Xbox division Phil Spencer teased the gamers that it's possible to develop support through the backwards compatibility program, so that the those who own a collection of Xbox original games would be able to use them on Xbox One. However, the boss did not make any promise that this would happen soon.
Are you looking forward to the possibility of playing your childhood Xbox original games soon? What games would you like to be included in the backwards compatibility program?
