After the controversial mid-season finale of "Scandal" season 5, the actors weigh in on the issue of abortion and hinted on the possible effects of it on the show.
Design & Trend reported that Kerry Washington who plays the role of Olivia Pope in the show posted a message on her Twitter account saying "#IStandWithMellie #IStandWithPlannedParenthood." Another Cast member Portia de Rossi also expressed her support to the show creator Shonda Rhimes in her Twitter feed saying that she is proud of Rhimes and it is probably one of the bravest storylines she has ever seen.
Meanwhile, Fashion & Style reported that actor Tony Goldwyn who plays Fitz talked about the controversial finale in an interview and hinted the possible effects of this to Fitz's relationship with Olivia. Although he revealed that Fitz does not know about the abortion yet, he said that viewers should expect that he will be devastated with the news. Goldwyn explained that it is the next dreadful thing after his son died and he is not sure if Fitz will be able to recover when he hears the news. But Goldwyn is hopeful that he would soon get over it because he has an "irrational" love for Olivia.
Goldwyn admitted the he personally doesn't know where Fitz stands on the issue as a Republican. However it has always been Fitz's dream to have a family with Olivia and with the abortion that dream is suddenly shattered. Goldwyn explained that although at the end of the day he would respect Olivia because it is her body, that doesn't change the fact that Olivia also killed his child.
When he was asked as to whether Fitz and Olivia can surpass this storm in their relationship, Goldwyn is optimistic that the couple will try to give their love another shot.
"Scandal" season 5 will return on ABC on February 11, 2016.
