"Castle" season 8 co-showrunners Terence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley recently explained why it's necessary for Rick Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) to stay separated.
In "Mr. & Mrs. Castle," Kate asked forgiveness from her husband after leaving him in the dark when it came to LokSat.
At first, Rick said that forgiving Kate and allowing things to get back to how they used to be would be quite challenging for him.
However, he eventually gave in to Kate's request to work with her on LokSat, and to fix their marriage.
In an interview with TV Line, Winter and Hawley said that Rick and Kate will keep their reunion a secret from their colleagues at the 12th precinct.
"What we love is that now that we're twisting it so that they're in it together but the public face of them is separate, that allows the audience to be in on the joke with them - in the sense that they can fight in public, but the audience knows that it's just an act," Hawley said.
Meanwhile, Winter added that the upcoming ninth episode of "Castle" season 8, which will return in February, fans will already see Rick and Kate's new relationship status.
In "Tone Death," Rick and Kate are expected to have some hilarious moments that will feature them trying to hide the fact that they are back together, according to Design N Trend.
In other news, Winter and Hawley also debunked rumors that Rick and Kate will think of having a baby. Fans believe that conceiving is the next step in strengthening the couple's marriage.
However, the co-showrunners said that a pregnancy storyline is not a priority at the moment because it would be difficult especially for Katic's character.
Additionally, the couple also has more issues that they need to focus on as of late.
"Castle" season 8 airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
