Several fans and followers criticized her for rarely smiling and some even went as far as claiming that she was depressed. Blanchard slammed these critics and said that fans should stop reading into things. The actress also received support from many fans, including fellow actresses in the industry after stepping up and saying something about depression:

"I don't think people realize how rude and hurtful it can be to just see comments where people say 'Are you depressed?' when depression is a serious and personal think that affects a ton of people. Funny how people think my Instagram means I'm depressed, yet when people who are actually depressed talk about their depression people make light of it and say that they are "overreacting."
