The five year legal battle between Samsung and Apple has been a very exhausting one. If fact, when Samsung agreed to pay Apple the $548 million, people may have thought that this clears all complications. However, when the two companies had filed a joint case management statement, Samsung did agree to complete its payment to Apple, the only complication is that Samsung stated in the case management statement that they still reserve the right for reimbursement (partial or full) if by any case the judgment is overturned.

Samsung is simply waiting for an invoice from the counter party and if the document would arrive before the weekend, Samsung will pay the $548 million by the 14th of December. But with the reimbursement right stated on Samsung's case management statement, and Apple's natural response that disputes Samsung's rights to reimbursement, it is hard to tell what's happening next. Furthermore, just expect more news coming from the court battle between the two tech giants as the filing says that the agreement for the payment has been reached last 2nd of November, yet a settlement is still yet to be completed.

As per GSMarena, the statement says: "...Samsung further reserves all rights to reclaim or obtain reimbursement of any judgment amounts paid by Samsung to any entity in the event the partial judgment is reversed, modified, vacated or set aside on appeal or otherwise, including as a result of any proceedings before the USPTO addressing the patents at issue or as a result of any petition for writ of certiorari filed with the Supreme Court. Samsung notes that the Patent Trial and Appeal Board has issued a final decision of invalidity on the '915 Patent, and Apple filed a notice of appeal to the Federal Circuit in the USPTO last week..."

With that statement, it's safe to assume that Samsung still has high hopes that its half a billion dollars won't stay in Apple's bank account for long.
