The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 which is now on its third straight weekend at the box office beat the only new major release, Krampus. According to the report, Mockingjay Part 2 took $18.6 million initially, and now a total of $227 million.
Krampus, a horror movie about a kid who summons a Santa, earned $16 million - a bit frustrating since horror movies are not exactly a favorite during the season.
According to TV Guide news, Creed is still drawing a crowd, coming out at third for its second weekend. On its second weekend, Creed nearly tied with The Good Dinosaur that took an estimated $15.51 million, bringing a total of $76 million. Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone's Rocky spin-off is still getting strong reviews and earned $15.54 million with a total of $65.1.
Spectre was placed fifth in its fifth weekend, gaining only $5.4 million, while the Seth Rogen comedy The Night Before earned $4.9 million and placed sixth, pushing The Peanuts Movie to No. 7 with only $3.5 million. Closing out the top 10 includes Spotlight which earned $2.9 million; Brooklyn earned $2.4 million, and The Secret in Their Eyes earned 1.9 million.
The final Hunger Games movie came out as an undisputed mega-smash hit that made a killing on its third straight weekend. This weekend, it debuted $101 million, the lowest debut of any of the four entries, but still the first biggest debut of the year.
Catching Fire opened with $158 million and placed top in 2013 with $423 million. Mockingjnay Part I opened with $121 million and finished with $338 million second only to American Sniper in 2014. And now Mockingjay Part 2 opened with $101 million and may end with around $280 to $290 million as reported by Forbes news.
The final Hunger Games is filled with a spectacular fight to the finish and achieved a glorious victory against President Snow. The final film not only does a deal in the crowd-pleasing "pre-Hunger Games" or "actual Hunger Games" material, but it also denies vicarious victory lap.
