"The Vampire Diaries" star Ian Somerhalder recently underwent fire for allegedly using his ex-girlfriend and former co-star Nina Dobrev to help boost the show's ratings.
Now, the actor may have just hinted that there's no truth to the rumors that the hit The CW series will be cancelled after season 7.
According to Celeb Dirty Laundry, Somerhalder doesn't have any problems with Dobrev's decision to no longer return to the show.
The actor added that the show will still survive without her character Elena Gilbert.
Unfortunately, Somerhalder's recent statement didn't match the show's ever-decreasing ratings.
Throughout the past couple of weeks, "The Vampire Diaries" has been getting less and less viewership.
Additionally, the series has been moved to a Friday timeslot which is only done to shows that will be cancelled sooner than later.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Variety, the actor said that "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 didn't change much at all without his ex-girlfriend.
The actor may have even thrown shade at Dobrev at that time because there were some rumors that the actress left the show because she feared it will be cancelled anyway.
"Everyone thought it was going to be a huge departure after Elena was gone. And I was one of those people. I thought it was going to be a huge departure for the typical formula of our show. By virtue of the fact that it wasn't a huge leap for mankind, as far as changing it up, there were some differences that sort of mixed up the formula," he said.
In other news, Somerhalder was also recently faced with marital issues when fans speculated that he's happy his wife Nikki Reed's show "Sleepy Hollow" may be in danger of being cancelled on Fox.
"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will air its midseason finale episode on Thursday Dec. 10, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
