The return episode for "Chicago PD" Season 3 has been confirmed for January, and apparently, the return episode could also be the start of the crossover between the show and "Chicago Fire."

Co-creator Matt Olmstead first announced back in August that the two shows will have a crossover episode, and it was revealed that the episodes will start in February and will include eight different stories. According to Christian Today, executive producer Derek Haas revealed in his Twitter account that there would be a three-way crossover episode in the show, which will premiere in January. In his interview, Olmstead revealed that it might explore the backstory of Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) and his late wife.

It was also revealed that the crossover episode will explain why he has a close relationship with Detective Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush). Olmstead shared in the interview that Lindsay idolized Voight's wife because she saw her as a model of a perfect woman since her own mother was not a good role model for her. Olmstead also revealed that Lindsay found it difficult when Voight's wife died, and this could also explain why she can relate to Voight.

Fashion & Style also earlier reported that the crossover episode will also see the conflict between Alvin Olinsky's (Elias Koteas) newfound daughter Michelle (Madison McLaughlin) and "Chicago Fire" character, Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund). It was said that Dawson will try to help out Michelle, but the latter would not appreciate the attention Dawson is giving her and would see her help as an invasion to her privacy. This reportedly could cause some conflict between the two.

After a long break, "Chicago PD" Season 3 will return with new episodes on Jan. 6, 2016 on NBC.
