The Seattle Mariners acquired first baseman Adam Lind from the Milwaukee Brewers for three teenage minor league pitchers, Wednesday.
The Milwaukee Brewers will be getting Daniel Missaki, Carlos Herrera and Freddy Peralta, who are all right-handers, as reported by the USA Today.
Milwaukee Brewers choose Lind's $8 million option for 2016 that was given last month, just what their general manager David Stearn has expected. His trade is part of the rebuilding process of the organization.
On the other hand, the Seattle Mariners are looking for a first baseman because Jerry Dipoto, their general manager, has traded Logan Morrison and Mark Trumbo.
Lind, 32, has batted .277 with 20 homers and 87 RBI in 149 games over his only season with the Milwaukee Brewers. Last year, he hit .291 against righties and .221 versus lefties. He is a .247 hitter in 10 big league seasons with 606 RBI and 166 homers for Toronto Blue Jays (over the 2006-2014 season) and Milwaukee Brewers.
"Adam lengthens our lineup as a first baseman who gives us on-base percentage and power," Dipoto said on a report from the ESPN. "First base was a spot we came here [to the winter meetings] looking to fill, and we feel that Adam is a good fit for us."
Scott Servias, Seattle Mariners' manager said that Lind is dominant against right-handed pitching and they knew that when they acquire him. "In a perfect world, we're giving him a day off here or there against a tough lefty. You want to put players in a position to succeed, and if that means you're going to use your entire roster, that's my job and the coaching staff's job. I would think somewhere else on our roster there'll be a right-handed-hitting first baseman. Adam Lind is a good player, and we gave up good players to get him," he added.
