Xiaomi, the Beijing-based electronics company behind the Mi and Redmi product line, is about to release its next flagship phone, the Mi 5. However, the rumors surrounding the company have been more concentrated on another possible product, a laptop, said to be similar to Apple's MacBook Air, and features a full metal body.
The Xiaomi laptop was said to be already in the works since last year by the PC division of the company, and is modeled after Apple's MacBook Air product line. The rumored laptop is said have a 15.6-inch screen and gives a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. It is also rumored to have a similar "ForceTouch" trackpad, as GSM Arena shares the story.
The Lei Feng Network officially released the information surrounding the Xiaomi laptop. It stated that the laptop is already doing some testing and will be offered at a very affordable price. It also stated that the Xiaomi Notebook computer is equipped with an Intel Core i7 4th generation processor with a 2GB dedicated memory for an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760M. It will have an 8GB DDR4 RAM and will have a 15.6-inch screen. Other information is a little bit foggy now, the report stated.
The Xiaomi laptop is said to be having a Linux operating system, to keep the price at bay, which is rumored to be 2,999 Yuan or US$466. This is very low compared to some similar specs machine, such as the Asus G551, Acer Aspire V3, or the Lenovo Y50, all gaming spec machines that are priced more than US$1,000, International Business Times reported.
However, the company is also said to be creating a smaller sized screen of their laptop, a 12.5-inch or 13.3-inch, and the quoted price may be for this lower model.
Xiaomi has not yet issued any official statement regarding the matter and these are all speculations as of the mean time.
