Fans have waited 20 long years to finally find out what happened to the characters in the successful 1996 sci-fi hit "Independence Day." The trailer of "Independence Day: Resurgence" is now out and it reveals a lot of what happened to earth after the ugly, squirming, computer-literate aliens invaded the earth, a report from E! Online said.
The video showed UN vehicles heading to an area in the dessert with a woman saying, "We found something out there, something only you might understand." The woman was Dr. Catherine Marceaux played by Charlotte Gainsburg. Upon arrival to the scene, Jeff Goldblum could only say "Oh my God!" to the creature that they have seen.
Resurgence continues what has been witnessed in "Independence Day" first installment. Apparently since the invasion in July 4, 1996 humans have learned to defend themselves through a defense program. But Levinson knew that aliens would soon come back for revenge. The scientist has been preparing the world for what was supposed to happen. He also studied how human technology also needed alien technology to start a more efficient defense system called the Earth Space Defense.
The words "We always knew they would come back," was seen on the trailer. "But nothing can prepare us for when they arrive."
Expect nothing but the best flight action scenes and of course epic space battles in part two but what happened to Will Smith's character in the movie?
Apparently the actor will not be in the movie. His character died in 2007 and it was explained with a short statement from the official website of the movie.
"While test piloting the ESD's first alien hybrid fighter, an unknown malfunction causes the untimely death of Col. Hiller," the site says. "Hiller's valor in the War of '96 made him a beloved global icon whose selfless assault against the alien mothership lead directly to the enemy's defeat. He is survived by his wife Jasmine and son Dylan."
Returning Independence Day: Resurgence actors are Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Brent Spiner and Judd Hirsch. New stars include Liam Hemsworth, Joey King, Jessie Usher, Sela Ward and Maika Monroe.
"Independence Day: Resurgence" will be released on June 24, 2016.
