"Switched at Birth" Season 5 could see Kathryn Kennish (Lea Thompson) divorcing her husband John (D.W. Moffett).
In the previous season, Katherine's former colleague Craig returned, and he willingly helped Katherine with her family's huge debt.
During an interview with TV Line, executive producer Lizzy Weiss dished on Craig's sudden return.
"Kathryn has really been very supportive, and we just felt like she needed a freak out, too. She was owed a freak out about losing the car wash and having money problems and becoming a grandmother so soon. We thought it would be fun to see her panic. In everybody's marriage, there are bumps... and hopefully you push past them. Craig was just a fun way to get her into her fancy dress and to enjoy a nice moment, instead of being so stand-by-your-man," she said.
Now that Weiss has explained that Kathryn won't cheat on John with Craig, fans can definitely breathe a sigh of relief. However, it's still possible that Kathryn will consider divorcing her husband due to other reasons.
Weiss also talked about Moffett's character and said that some fans love him dearly, while others condemn him for his recent choices.
"John is John. You love him when he does the right thing - but he doesn't always do the right thing. He's fun to write for because he changes and grows, but the essence of him is always John Kennish," she said.
Meanwhile, "Switched at Birth" Season 5 episode 1 will reportedly change the lives of the entire Kennish household, according to The Wrap. In "The Call," Bay (Vanessa Marano) will be the receiver of bad news from someone close to her and Daphne (Katie Leclerc). Bay and Daphne will immediately return to the United States upon receiving the call.
"Switched at Birth" Season 5 will premiere on ABC Family sometime next year.
