Tarzan, the king of the jungle, is back on the big screens.
The beloved tale of Tarzan and Jane gets a new twist from the upcoming movie that is set to be released in 2016. Playing the lead role of Tarzan is Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgård. The actor is probably best known as the Vampire Eric Northman in HBO’s True Blood.
The role of Jane Porter, Tarzan’s love interest, will be played by Margot Robbie, who’s previously been casted as Harley Quinn in the upcoming DC Comics movie, Suicide Squad.
The cast also includes Samuel L. Jackson, Christoph Waltz, Djimon Hounsou and John Hurt. The movie is directed by Harry Potter director, David Yates.
It has been said that the storyline for this version of the classic tale will be the opposite of what is known in the story. According to Venture Capital Post, the story will focus on Tarzan ten years after leaving Congo and is now known as Lord Greystoke, a successful businessman and trader that lives with his wife Jane in Victorian London. They have been invited to go back to Congo to investigate some illegal activities.
The trailer, which was released last December 9, gathered mixed reactions from the audience. Some says that Skarsgård is a perfect fit in playing Tarzan. Skarsgård told USA Today that he had to work out for four months to get Tarzan’s ideal body shape. “I basically didn’t see my family or my friends though it was definitely worth getting up at 4:30 in the morning.”
According to Skarsgård, he also seeked help from choreographer Wayne McGregor so that he can study the movements and the posture of a Victorian Englishman. “He works mostly with the best contemporary ballet dancers in the world, so it was quite unusual for him to work with somebody like me who can’t touch their toes.”
“The Legend of Tarzan” will be in cinemas on July 1, 2016.
