It cannot be denied that Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors is one of the few geniuses who stepped foot on the NBA court. To be more exact, Curry is a genius which was not born to be one, but definitely made himself as one. That is why he is truly a valuable asset for the Golden State Warriors and possibly any other team who would be adding him on their roster in the near future.
However, with his current game changing abilities, Curry is still one of the most underpaid athletes despite being an MVP and he's also fifth-highest-compensated player on his team. Believe or not, Curry signed for a four-year, $44 million contract in 2012. It was basically because of his unstable ankle with recurring issues. However, such situation did not discourage the MVP. For Curry on his interview with Yahoo Sports stated that;
"I had to make a conscious decision and remind myself over and over [to let it go]," Curry told Yahoo Sports. "I could've had a different perspective and said, 'I want to get everything that I could get, wait it out, test free agency that next year - and who knows what would've happened? But for me, a $44 million contract was plenty for me to be able to provide for my family. When I made a decision to sign an extension, I told myself that was the right decision for the moment."
Indeed it is a very humble statement to be heard from a phenomenal NBA superstar who is currently sweeping the social media and commercial market with his own brand worldwide. Curry believed that his decision was the best decision at the moment. By doing such thing he was surrounded with great teammates like Andre Iguodala, thanks to the "cap space created out of Curry's discount," said Yahoo. And together with these teammates of his, Andre Iguodala, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Andrew Bogut, Stephen Curry was able to achieve the MVP title and was able to exhibit his genius inside the court. For Curry, thinking about his salary would only lead to negativity. That is why he would rather not delve deeper on it. As Curry stated via yahoo;
"And, yeah, you should get paid market value, paid for what you're worth, but at the time, for four years, I was comfortable with it. You can't look back, because it'll bring negativity. It'll cause dissension in the team if you allow it to.""[But] at the time, the counsel that I got from my family, my agent, myself, was that it was the right decision to make. With that, I could take care of my family and be good. And hopefully anything that happened after that would just be icing on the cake."
In the very end of it, all Curry has to say was that, "it's nice to know that I got a championship out of it, an MVP season out of it, and hopefully setting up for something better down the line."
