Rumor has it that game developer Nintendo is planning to release a free-to-play Amiibo game via the company's Nintendo Software Technology, a report from Nintendo Life said on Tuesday.

"The studio responsible for 'Wave Race: Blue Storm' and 'Mario vs. Donkey Kong' was once a major player in Nintendo's network of internal studios, but the costly disaster that was 'Project H.A.M.M.E.R.' resulted in a massive exodus of talent and NST being limited in terms of what projects it was allowed to handle," the report said, detailing the previous works of NST.

According to the report, several sources who are privy to the information claim that a new Amiibo game is already finished and will be launched in early 2016, specifically in North America. It was said that the new game can be downloaded by players who own an amiibo.

However, it should be noted, that the "free-to-play" scheme will be part of the game's special promotional campaign. This means that in the future, when the game is officially released, players have to buy it.

Meanwhile, Gamnesia said that it was reported that Nintendo Software Technology has hired a team of developers for its mobile development. In fact, the company's President Shigeki Yamashiro is open to the idea of converting NST into a mobile gaming studio.

"Nintendo Software Technology President Shigeki Yamashiro is reportedly exploring the idea of converting the studio into a mobile-only developer. However, it is believed that the company has not yet begun mobile development, and any such change in the studio's purpose will need approval from Nintendo executives in Japan. Nintendo hasn't commented on this story at this time, so it should be treated as an unconfirmed rumor. The studio's future may not be in developing for 3DS, Wii U, and the mysterious NX," the report said.
