Pop superstar Katy Perry gets almost anything that she wants by now, but it has not always been like that for her growing up with her family, which is kind of hard to imagine given the fact that she’s singing about kissing a girl and liking it.

While everybody was celebrating the epic adventures of Harry Potter and his friends, Perry didn’t read or even watch J.K. Rowling’s best-selling novels.

According to her interview at People, Perry was not allowed to read the novel as kids because of her strict and religious upbringing.

She tells the magazine, “I know Harry Potter, but I've never read the books, nor have I seen the movies because growing up, I was not allowed to read the books.”

Her parents, Keith Hudson and Mary Hudson are devout Christian ministers and Perry herself started her career singing Christian music under the name Katy Hudson but soon changed her name to Perry to avoid confusion with the actress Kate Hudson.

"Growing up, I wasn't allowed to have any fantastical, enchanting stuff around me. It's funny that now I'm doing a little bit of a magic-potion-themed perfume," said Perry.

Perry has just released her new fragrance called “Mad Potion." According to her website, “Mad Potion is rich with deliciously seductive vanillas from around the world. The duo of glowing amber and jasmine petals provide a twist of mysterious and playful fun.”

Other perfumes that Perry released were Purr & Meow, Royal Revolution and a tribute to one of her favorite bands and inspiration, Queen, she made the “Killer Queen” perfume. You can purchase these perfumes directly from the singer’s website.

Perry is also busy these days after recently launching her own mobile game called "Katy Perry Pop," which was developed by the same company that made the “Kim Kardashian Hollywood” app. According to Daily Mail, the app allows the players to become superstars after working as a coffee shop waitress.
