"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" achieved a strong and historic opening weekend when the film reached $238 million on ticket sales.

The Verge reported that J.J. Abrams' recent film masterpiece has already earned an estimated $238 million from its weekend tickets in the US alone. That would probably reach twice the amount when all the sales from cinemas around the world will be added to this estimation.

Based on some reports, the international ticket sales has now reached $517 million.

The report also stated that "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" already surpassed the blockbuster record made by "Jurassic World" with $208.8 million from its domestic opening weekend.

According to some fans, the disparity might be because of the delayed launch in China which makes the "'solid financial contribution from moviegoers in the growing market."

Yet, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has been tagged as the film with the biggest single day launch ever made in the history.

However, it remains second next to "Avatar" with a reigning $760.5 million reaching $800 million sales made when it premiered in the domestic market alone. Internationally, the film earned $2.78 billion from the ticket sales. So, from that record, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" remains next to this successful film.

Analysts mentioned that this film might reach $2 billion sales worldwide eventually, CNBC mentioned. "They [Disney] are going to probably make, at the end of the day, on this first film alone worldwide, just box office in theaters, probably over $2 billion," Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst at Rentrak said.

He added, "They made a great movie, that's what really does it. If the movie was disappointing, it could have been backed down the road of all the success of each additional film, because this sets the stage and the tone for how well the movie is going to do, and all successive properties under the 'Star Wars' brand."

"This sets the stage for a great revenue stream for decades to come for Disney. This is a cash cow for Disney. They are going to make a big multiple on that $4 billion investment on Lucasfilm. It was money well spent."

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" movie remains showing in different cinemas worldwide. So, the fans will just have to keep themselves updated with the recent updates on the films rankings on whether it could possibly surpass the "Avatar" film's success.
