It is one marriage proposal with an unexpected outcome.

A man proposed to his girlfriend elaborately, only to be turned down because the diamond ring was too small. It happened on a street in Chengdu, the capital city of south-west China's Sichuan province, in which initially, the woman seemed to have been overwhelmed by the gesture and started crying when her boyfriend headed towards her in a public square. When he knelt in front of her and he opened the box, she saw the size of the ring and turned around, obviously not impressed, UK Mirror reports.

An eyewitness shared on local TV, "Her eyes went wide as she put her hand over her mouth, and then she turned around and walked away without saying anything."

In addition, People's Daily Online reports that the man hired a group of dancers just to impress his girl (perhaps now ex-girl?). Later,  the man emerged and got down on his knees and that is when the cringe-worthy reaction happened in which she walked away from the gathered crowd.

Mirror UK adds that a screen shot of a WeChat conversation was later on posted online and it goes like this:

The girlfriend says: "But he agreed to buy me a diamond ring as large as one carat. Why was this one so small? Is he so careless or has he ever cared about me?"

Her friend replies: "Don't worry. Perhaps the bigger one will be waiting for you later or he hasn't prepared it for this time."

It is not clear when the incident happened but photographs have been circulating in China. The woman, still unidentified, has been ridiculed online and many people in China think that she does not deserved to be proposed to. The man must have been utterly devastated. They made their sentiments known through Weibo, China's equivalent to Twitter.
