Patrick Dempsey, who played the role of Dr. Derek 'McDreamy' Shepherd, was axed from ABC's drama series "Grey's Anatomy" earlier this year. The actor remained mum on the issues until his most recent interview.
In a long interview with Entertainment Weekly (EW), Dempsey aired his side on what he thinks about Rhimes' comment last month during the latter's appearance on Larry Wilmore's show on "Comedy Central." Rhimes said yes when she was asked if she ever killed off a character because she didn't like the actor. Talking with EW, the "Can't Buy Me Love" actor seemed to straighten out what he really feels with Rhimes. His reply triggered rumors that he was dissing the "Scandal" and "Private Practice" creator.
"I think she loves being provocative and that's fine for who she is. That gets people talking about all the stuff that she's doing," the car racer/actor said. "She's an amazing woman who is incredibly productive. She's promoting a book. She's promoting three shows. And she's emerging as the star of all of these things. I think she knows how to deal with the media and what she needs to say to get the response that she's looking for. She's very savvy."
However, it was not the first time that the producer has killed off characters in her show. According to Us Weekly, Rhimes also axed Columbus Short who played Harrison Wright on "Scandal" in the previous years. The actor/choreographer's role on the ABC's drama series was terminated a month after he was charged with spousal battery against his wife.
As for Dempsey, the 49-year-old claimed that he's very happy to move on with a different chapter in his life after "Grey's Anatomy." He said though that he's still open to anything like doing TV again. "I just think you have to be open, to see what happens and what comes along," Dempsey said.
