After the shocking death in the mid-season finale of "The Originals" Season 3, a new threat will be coming for the original family when the show returns next year.

Christian Today reports that Elijah (Daniel Gillies), Klaus (Joseph Morgan), and Freya (Riley Voelkel) will be haunted by a new creature in the return episode. The creature, which is a new vampire villain, is described to be callous and manipulative and aims to take the Mikaelsons down.

In the first half of the season, the siblings were busy dealing with other villains who were former lovers and foes in the characters of Aurora (Rebecca Breeds), Tristan (Oliver Ackland), and Lucien (Andrew Lees).

According to Fashion & Style, the siblings must now be vigilant with the new villain named Cortez who has no regard for human life. It was reported that it is up to the original family to stop this monster from killing the innocent people in New Orleans.

Meanwhile, executive producer Michael Narducci teased that fans should look forward to a little heart-to-heart talk between Klaus and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin). The EP replied to a fan on Twitter and revealed that little Hope's parents will be putting their differences aside in episode 15 and will sit down to talk about what is good for their child.

In other news, the teaser for the return episode shows a vengeful Klaus after his ex-lover, Aurora, killed Cami (Leah Pipes). Executive producer Julie Plec earlier revealed that Cami won't be dead for long and that she will absolutely return to the show. With that, many speculate that Cami might be resurrected as a vampire in the second part of the season. However, Plec did not reveal any plot twists regarding that matter.

"The Originals" Season 3 will return to The CW in a new timeslot on Jan. 29.
