"Star Wars" has been the talk of the town, even a week after "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" was released in theatres. While many jumped on the bandwagon, it seems as though soccer star Omar Gonzalez turned to the Dark Side.
It was on Tuesday when Gonzales was introduced during a press conference. However, instead of showing up in a dapper suit or some other more casual outfit, Omar decided to step out in a Darth Vader costume.
It didn't even stop there: As he made his way into the room, Omar was accompanied by a Stormtrooper and "someone that sure looked like Emperor Palpatine."
Perhaps, Gonzalez thought it was best to pay tribute to "Star Wars" to keep the mood light - Omar is part of the U.S. and Mexico soccer rivalry, after all.
Apparently, the press conference was to announce that Omar Gonzalez won't be with L.A. Galaxy anymore, and is making the most out of his remaining time before he moves on to C.F. Pachuca. Rolling Stone reports:
"Gonzalez, a member of the U.S. Men's National Team, has played with L.A. Galaxy since being drafted by the team a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away (or 2009, at the MLS SuperDraft in St. Louis). Since then, he's earned MLS Rookie of the Year honors, won three MLS Cups and appeared in 180 games with the team, the ninth most in franchise history. But on Tuesday, the Galaxy transferred Gonzalez to Mexican club C.F. Pachuca, bringing an era to an end."
Omar Gonzales also stayed in character the entire time complete with a Darth Vader mask and a lightsaber. Watch the video of his "Star Wars" themed entrance here.
Of course, Gonzales ended up taking the mask off after being announced as the newest member of the C.F. Pachuca team. Watch the announcement here.
