Nintendo will be commemorating Pokemon's 20th anniversary with a special edition of Nintendo 2DS. The anniversary edition will come in a unique console body that is available in four different colors. The item will also come with free Pokemon games. The limited edition 2DS units will be launched on February 27, 2015 in Japan.
The free Pokemon games that will come with the special edition consoles will not be new spin-offs of the Pokemon series but instead a revamped 2DS and 3DS version of the original Pokemon titles with a few modern added features.
Furthermore, a few details about the products release were leaked by Gamespot. The special edition Pokemon themed 2DS systems will not only come in different colors but will also be equipped with free Pokemon games whose version will depend on the console's skin color.
Gamers who would purchase the red 20th anniversary console will get a Pokemon Red version with it. The green-skinned handheld will come with a pokemon green, blue handheld with pokemon blue and yellow handhelds with pokemon yellow version.
Aside from the festive themed skin, the 2DS Pokemon games will also be upgraded to be as competitive as todays handheld gaming consoles. The 2DS versions of the old Pokemon games are wifi ready and allows its players to battle and trade with other players around the world through the internet and without a link cable.
For Pokemon gamers who are not interested in buying a new 2DS anniversary console, the remastered versions of the original pokemon titles will be made available via Nintendo eShop.
All the legit announcements related to Nintendo's anniversary edition of the Nintendo 2DS and the remastered original pokemon titles have only been disclosed to Japanese audience. Its release in the US are yet to be announced leaving western Pokemon fans on the edge of their seats.
