MGMT - AKA founding members Benjamin Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden - hasn't released any new material the past couple of years. But it seems as though that's all about to change, as the band teased about a return sometime in the next year.
Eerily greeting Jesus (and everyone else) a happy birthday, the group hinted a comeback - leading many to speculate that a new album might be released in 2016 - on Christmas Day with a very exciting tweet:
"Happy bday jesus . Merry holidays everyone. Happy birthday, everyone: 2016 is the year MGMT re-dominates your mind hole , see you then."
No one's really heard much from MGMT since they released their self-titled LP in 2013, as reported by Complex. Although they released some music videos for some singles, such as "Alien Days" and "Cool Song No. 2," the band has barely performed any concert in 2015 either.
Their last performance was in 2014: they performed at Party In The Park in Atlanta, Georgia, and gave a show at Coachella. Not just that, but they even played "Pursuit of Happiness" with Kid Cudi, a track off his 2009 album, "Man on the Moon: The End of Day."
It's hard to imagine what we can expect from MGMT, though. Jam Base reports that the band has constantly been changing their sound - from their debut album, "Oracular Spectacular" in 2014, to the 2010 album, "Congratulations," in addition to the 2013 album.
It seems as though 2016 will be a good year for music lovers. According to YourEDM, artists such as LCD Soundsystem, as well as Gorillaz (as reported by Food World News), have already promised to make a return next year.
