“Sherlock” is about to start its fourth season, but before that happens, they have a little gift for the holidays. A special single episode has been created entitled, “The Abominable Bride,” and will be aired on Jan. 1, 2016, Friday.

The ”Sherlock Holmes: The Abominable Bride” will have a special episode that is 90-minutes long and will be aired on Jan. 1, 2016 at 9 p.m. EST on on PBS. The special will also be featured on 500 selected theaters all over the country on Jan. 5-6, 2016. However, the theatrical version will be 20 minutes longer and will include behind-the-scene footages of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, iDigitalTimes reported.

”Sherlock Holmes: The Abominable Bride” is set in the 1890s and is about the 56th story of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, “The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle.” The short story was written in 1892 and is about a plumber with previous crimes being implicated on a jewelry theft.

Steve Moffat, the showrunner said that it was his idea to see Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in their proper era even for once.

“We’ve got, I think you can safely say, the Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson of a generation – we want to see them do it in the proper outfits, just once,” DigitalSpy reported.

“The Abominable Bride” special is a stand alone story and will have no connection to the regular shows of the season. Fans will also witness Sherlock as a different person, a true gentleman during the Victorian era and a lot less rude. Dr. Watson, on the other hand, will be more uptight as Moffat described it.

”Sherlock Holmes: The Abominable Bride” will also feature Amanda Abbington, Una Stubbs and Rupert Graves, still with their roles as Mary Morstan, Mrs. Hudson, and Inspector Lestrade. Also, since the special has something to do with a ghost, it is more appropriate to have it in the Victorian era than the present day.
