In terms of NBA success, the 27 year old game changing point guard of the Warriors had led his team to break the championship drought which lasted for forty years. That is why upon leading the Warriors to capture the NBA title, Stephen Curry also captured the MVP title. And just most recently, another title was given to Curry as a testament of his success.
It was announced by the Associated Press via ESPN that Stephen Curry is the AP Male Athlete of the Year. By winning the award, Curry is currently the fourth professional basketball player who have earned the prestigious sports award. He is now in line with the three NBA players who went ahead of him earning the award, namely Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, and LeBron James.
This particular award won by Curry is not a simple thing to be received by an NBA player, for other athletes who excelled in their own sports vied for the said AP Male Athlete of the Year award. This year, Curry outvoted the known golfer Jordan Spieth and horseracing's American Pharaoh.
Winning this said award somehow validates the MVP award of Curry which was being questioned or criticized by some individuals. Indeed Curry deserves this award, especially that his kind of game breaks through barriers of every fans from almost every NBA teams. It cannot be helped that fans of the opposing teams be in awe of his moves and game changing performances every now and then in the hard court.
