"Homeland" season finale left the fans with a devastating twist. The final episode entitled "A False Glimmer" revealed that two main characters were killed. After the finale ended, numerous theories emerged in regards to Carrie Mathison's character (who is portrayed by Claire Danes). Fans can't help but ask if Carrie will be returning as a CIA agent as she already went through a series of turmoil while serving the force.
In addition to the season finale's twists was the part when Carrie gave Quinn (who is already dead) a letter, which hinted Quinn's return for the next season.
IBT then added that Carrie's comeback may be due to the fact that she can't get over her current assignment, and wanted to have it done. This being said, there's a huge possibility that she will be returning full time in the 6th season.
During an interview with Variety, the executive producer of the series, Lesli Linka Glatter, stated that most of the season finale's speculations were nothing but rumors. When she was asked as to whether Carrie will be returning to CIA, she stated that fans would have to wait for the next season for them to be able to get an answer.
"It'll be interesting to see where the next season goes as far as that goes. Until we have that series of meetings, I don't know yet if Alex has any idea. But those meetings in Washington have such a big impact."
When she was asked on the series overall output for the last season, Glatter stated that she is satisfied with the outcome of season 5.
"I'm very proud of this season. It's a bit intense that so much of the story we created has been playing out in some form in real life. That's been disconcerting on so many levels. I was in the middle of shooting the season finale when (the attacks on) Paris happened. We were shooting in the subway tunnel under the Reichstag."
