Previous rumors suggested that the upcoming Nintendo NX will be a "hybrid" console. Since the company officially announced to the public the new console, several speculations have surfaced.

In fact, fans are divided on the issue with some speculating that Nintendo NX will be similar to Wii U, PS4 or Xbox One, while others say that it will be a handheld console. However, Koei Tecmo President and CEO Yoichi Erikawa has hinted that Nintendo NX will be a traditional home console, a report from iDigital Times said on Thursday.

The recent details about the company's new device has been revealed in an interview with 4Gamer, a Japan-based gaming website.  Below is the translated transcript of the interview with CEO Yoichi Erikawa as reported by Siliconera.

4Gamer: On one hand, virtual reality requires special machinery to play, and we feel that the current state of "games" is headed to yet another way of playing. It's almost as if it's evolving towards the opposite direction of smartphones, and requires to "only play at that spot," or something along those lines. Lately it seems that [home] consoles haven't been doing too well, but is that the case? At least that's what we're wondering.

Erikawa: "Actually, I think that it'll start doing much better. The PlayStation 4 has recently surpassed 2 million units in nationwide sales, and Nintendo announced a new 'machine' called the NX. From this point forward, I believe that each company will make clear commitments for these machines."

"Of course, this doesn't mean that NX isn't as hybrid device which has a home console and portable unit, but it does seem to make it very clear that Nintendo is still focused on the home market with its new platform. As the head guy at Koei Tecmo, Erikawa is almost certain to have been given details of the console by Nintendo, and may have even seen development units in the flesh, so he's a pretty reliable source," Nintendo Life said.
