"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 could see Martin Henderson's character Nathan Riggs either falling in love with Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) or Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone).

During the fall finale episode of the hit ABC show, Nathan tried to ask Meredith to have some drinks with him. Unfortunately, she refused because she vowed to be loyal to Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd).

Despite being rejected by Meredith, Nathan decided to head to the nearby bar where he saw Amelia having a few glasses of alcohol.

Nathan asked Amelia if he could sit beside her on the bar, and she agreed.

At that time, Amelia had ill feeling towards Owen and Meredith for keeping her out of loop when it comes to what's really happening in Owen's life.

Meanwhile, fans never learned what exactly happened between Nathan and Amelia during their night out, and some fans believe that it's possible that the two hooked up.

If this happens, Amelia and Owen will have an even bigger issue in their relationship, and this will also make it difficult for Owen and Nathan to repair their broken friendship.

Meanwhile, Henderson spoke with TV Line where he said that it's only normal for Nathan to get into a relationship with any female character on the show.

"Obviously, it's a possibility. It's just as viable that I end up with anyone on the show," he said.

In other news, there have been rumors that Henderson's character may also be revealed to be a transgender.

However, TV actor and journalist Michael Ausiello told the same publication during a separate interview that this storyline is highly unlikely.

"Highly unlikely. When Rhimes cast the New Zealand native, she didn't want him to 'dampen down' his accent too much. Owen was born and raised in Seattle, not New Zealand. The biggest mystery, as I see it, is whether his MIA sister is dead or alive," he said.

"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 will premiere on ABC on Feb. 11, 2016 at 8 p.m. ET.
