There have been reports recently that the St. Louis Cardinals is in need of an outfielder. After some names have popped up in the baseball rumor mill, Charlie Blackmon and Corey Dickerson were specifically pointed out as top candidates of the said trade deal. And in a more recent update of the said trade deal between Colorado Rockies and Cardinals, Charlie Blackmon has been seen as the person of interest for the Cardinals.
The said intent of the Cardinals to fill in an outfielder was due the fact that they've shipped out Jason Heyward to Chicago Cubs during the offseason. And reports have it that the Cardinals is in need of someone to fill in the gap left by Heyward.
In line with the said void within the Cardinals roster, the Colorado Rockies on the other hand has been speculated of wanting to unload some of their outfielders, thus making the said trade deal between the Cardinals and Rockies quite feasible.
Christian Post reported that Blackmon fits the need of the Cardinals, and testament to this is his great season wherein "he batted .287/.347/.450, while adding 17 homers and 58 RBIs" for his team. Aside from that, the versatility of Blackmon can immediately be capitalized by the Cardinals in the coming games.
However, in order for Blackmon to be acquired by the Cardinals, it is now being speculated that the Rockies would likely ask for pitcher Alex Reyes in return. Mlbdailydish stated that, "while the Cardinals do need another outfielder, they might not be willing to part with notable prospects in order to add one. In a package including an outfielder, the Rockies would likely request pitcher Alex Reyes."
But still there are no confirmations coming from both teams, guess we would just have to wait for this trade scenario to unfold.
