"The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 is only a few weeks left before it returns on The CW with its new Friday timeslot. Is the show really on the brink of cancellation? Will Delena's return help revive the series?
"The Vampire Diaries" is rumored to be headed for the chopping block, as The CW series continues to get low ratings for the past one of two seasons, Carter Matt reported. According to the publication, this drop in ratings happened even before actress Nina Dobrev left the series and majority of the drop can be attributed to the show's storylines.
The outlet noted that the odds at seeing 'TVD' cancelled after Season 7 remain moderately high. While the show definitely improved its storyline after Dobrev chose to leave the series after Season 6, "The Vampire Diaries" remained at 0.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic.
The publication pointed out, however, that while the show's movement to a Friday timeslot can be taken as a bad sign about the show's future, it would be wise to note that the network would give the show a proper ending. "The Vampire Diaries" is said to be one of the few shows on The CW, which helped the network find its identity.
While Nina Dobrev's departure definitely saddened and disappointed a lot of fans and viewers, MTV News recently paid tribute to Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder's pairing on the series. Dobrev and Somerhalder's respective characters, Elena Gilbert and Damon Salvatore aka 'Delena' were named as the "Best TV Couple of 2015."
The publication noted that while the 'Delena' pairing may be nothing but a "goodbye for now" and a reunion is highly unlikely, fans continue to 'ship the couple on various social media sites. Damon and Elena seemed to bring out the best in each other and their relationship just stuck in the minds and hearts of fans and viewers worldwide.
