The glass home called 'The Photon Space' is a structure made entirely of glass, which is made to utilize the many benefits of exposure to correct amount of sunlight.
This innovation was built on the idea that sunlight affects our 'circadian rhythm' or more commonly, our body clock. According to the makers of Photon Space, people have 'in-built patterns of wakefulness and sleepiness we feel over the course of approximately 24 hours,' and if this rhythm is disrupted, there could cause health problems like insomnia, stress, lethargies, depression, among others. This project aims to link the relationship between sunlight and wellness.
Professor Russell Foster, project lead of the compact glass home, says, "The daylight shortly after dawn is 50- 100 times brighter than artificial home or office light. When we expose ourselves to this natural light it sets the body clock and increases alertness - it is like having a 'Photon Shower'. It makes you feel more alive and able to get on with your day."
Occupants need not worry about overexposure to sunlight as they could easily control the amount of light, glare and heat entering their home. Solar radiation could also be blocked by up to 63 percent, sound could be lessened by 85 percent, and exposure to UV rays could be avoided almost entirely. They can always darken the room through a remote control, your smartphone, or even a gesture, if they want to sleep in the morning, thanks to their electrochromic technology.
Having an area of 485-square-foot, this unique home could be installed even in unusual spaces. However, this is not commercially available yet, as the people behind the project are still raising funds to market and develop it further for the next five years. But according to Gizmag, people who want to have this kind of home could have theirs built as early as now.
