"Grey's Anatomy" and Derek Shepherd's (Patrick Dempsey) death have been named as one of the most popular stories on TV today.
According to TV Line, the hit ABC show has been ranked first on their list of popular shows for this year.
The publication specifically used the episode which saw Derek death in season 11 as one of their favorites.
The said episode aired on ABC on Apr. 23, 2015.
At that time, fans of the hit ABC show couldn't contain their shock over reports that the actor has been axed from the series for good.
Following his exit, Dempsey spoke with TV Line and expressed his gratitude for being given the opportunity to play the role of Derek for 11 seasons.
"It's been a remarkable ride. The worldwide impact has been extraordinary. It is incredible how devoted and passionate the fans are, and I will forever be grateful and humbled by the experience," he said.
Meanwhile, executive producer and series creator Shonda Rhimes also weighed in on Derek's death and said that the decision didn't come easy for her.
"Derek Shepherd is and will always be an incredibly important character - for Meredith, for me and for the fans. I absolutely never imagined saying goodbye to our 'McDreamy.' Patrick Dempsey's performance shaped Derek in a way that I know we both hope became a meaningful example - happy, sad, romantic, painful and always true - of what young women should demand from modern love. His loss will be felt by all," she said.
Following her lengthy message, Rhimes also said that she's looking forward to what will happen to Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) now that Derek is no longer around.
"Now, Meredith and the entire 'Grey's Anatomy' family are about to enter unchartered territory as we head into this new chapter of her life. The possibilities for what may come are endless. As what Ellis Grey would say: the carousel never stops turning," she added.
"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 will return to ABC on Feb. 11.
