Former Texas A&M quarterback Kyle Allen is reportedly moving to Houston Cougars to play for coach Tom Herman.
Allen will have to sit out the next 2016 season as per NCAA transfer rules. However, this suits Houston perfectly as they bring back dual-threat quarterback Greg Ward Jr. next fall for his senior season. It will give Allen a chance to learn the Houston systems while sitting out with a redshirt season, as reported by College Football Talk.
Allen will likely be prepared and ready to hit the offense at Houston by 2017. He will remain eligible for a couple of years for the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
Allen passed for 2,210 yards and 17 touchdowns for the A&M this season but decided to leave the program soon before the bowl game. Meanwhile, A&M also lost Kyler Murray and is reportedly moving to Oklahoma Sooners this year. The team will be getting former Sooners quarterback Trevor Knight to replace Murray.
According to a report from Cleveland, Ohio Buckeyes wanted to get Allen for the 2014 recruiting class but he chose Texas A&M. The Buckeyes also locked in on Deshaun Watson, a former five-star quarterback who went to the Clemson Tigers and will play against the Alabaman Crimson in the national title game on Jan. 11.
Ward, who led Houston to a win over Florida Gators in the Chic-Fil-A Bowl Peach Bowl this season, will graduate next season, so Allen can compete for a starting position in his first year as an eligible player. Kyle Postma, a Cougars backup who played when Ward was injured, has two more years left, and that sets up Allen's competition in what will be his redshirt junior year.
The Buckeyes may have a hard time getting Allen since current starter J.T. Barret is still eligible for two more years. That means, if Allen chose Buckeyes, he may not start for three or more years if Barret stays for his senior year.
