Palm Springs is a place that many residents and visitors are attracted to because of the city's rich history. In fact, many celebrities choose to call this scenic place their home.
Palm Springs draws tourists from all over the U.S. and even across it. It boasts a number of distinct architectural spots all over the city. In addition, visitors also come to search for the sensational magnetism that has brought many golden era stars to this place. This connection between the stars and the place goes all the way back to the 1930s, Desert Sun reported.
A number of celebrities hired both up-and-coming and well-experienced architects to draft unique homes in Palm Springs. Cary Grant had bought an already-built house in what is currently known as the movie colony area, and hired a renowned architect named Wallace Neff to plan an extension of the house. This was around the 1950s, and Neff is also widely famous among celebrities. He is recognized for his help in setting up the Californian architectural style. He also helped design Pickfair for famous stars Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford. Grant's home is currently a Class One Historic Site in Palm Springs.
Several stars leased, bought, or commissioned extensive Revival-styled Spanish Colonial properties in the famous Old Las Palmas. As a matter of fact, several Palm Springs major properties are situated in this area, including the estate where Mike Todd and Elizabeth Taylor had their honeymoon, which is right next to the colossal Duncan Yo-Yo home that dancer/actress Ann Miller inhabited years after.
Famous celebrity Frank Sinatra first visited Palm Springs in the year 1946 and fell in love with the place quickly, Palm Springs Life reported. He decided to relocate here with his then wife, Nancy. Sinatra discussed a couple of ideas with a local architect named E. Stewart Williams who designed their home off of what is currently known as Alejo Road. Sinatra's modern-type home greatly contributed to the rising architectural style throughout Palm Springs at that time.
