Kitchens are where most families spend lots of time in, and we're not just talking about cooking. Even party guests hang out  in the kitchen.

So if you want to improve your kitchen and make it even more homey, you can always have it remodeled. But remodeling of kitchens can be very expensive, so you need to take your time and choose wisely which style and color palette to choose for the place.

White will always be a popular color for a kitchen, it's a classic color. And, since everything goes with white, decorating changes can easily be made without breaking the bank.

Country Kitchen and Modern Chic are two popular design trends that stand out today. But how do you choose which one to get? That question would be answered by you. What is your personal taste and style?

The list below will help you look at the differences between the two styles.

Take a look at the attributes of a classic country kitchen:

Warm and cozy. Country kitchens make you want to sit down and stay.

The place has a variety of textures. The surface in a country kitchen might be different, but all of the elements found there are coordinated to work together. Like for instance, the marble countertops would look great with reclaimed wood, or shiny ceramic tile offers would offer a nice contrast to painted cabinets.

Shaker or flat panel cabinet fronts. The norm in country kitchens is to have Traditional Shaker cabinetry. This gives it a classic and timeless look.

Open shelving. This allows you to keep needed items at hand, as well as display pretty collections like cast iron pots or china plates.

An island (often in contrasting color). To keep an all-white kitchen from looking like a laboratory, install an island in a contrasting finish and/or style.

Farmhouse sink. An apron front farmhouse sink is quintessential country, especially when paired with an old fashioned bridge-style faucet.

Here are the common attributes of a modern chic kitchen:

Clean lines. Designs of most modern kitchens has straight, clean lines compared to country kitchens which tend to be more organic. Vertical and horizontal lines keep the space streamlined.

Metallic accents. Metallic finishes are important in modern design schemes.

Slab panel cabinetry. In modern kitchen designs, flush or slab cabinets in glossy white lacquer are always noticed.

Simple hardware or no hardware. Euro style or hidden hinges maintain the sleek look of modern design.

Uncluttered. In industrial designs, accessories and collections are rarely on display.

Minimalist. Going for less design doesn't necessarily equate to boring. Colors, textures and patterns should relate with each other. One element shouldn't overpower another.
