New York City is known for being the highest priced piece of land in the world. On the average, a piece of property costs around $2 million.  However, anybody can actually ask for any amount of price in the state.

SoHo - $2,717,500 average sale price

SoHo is known to house the apartments of Tyra Banks, Jonah Hill, Kelly Ripa and many more well-known celebrities. It houses the most expensive residential area in New York City, aside from the abundance of high-end shops and cafés.  However, most of these apartment buildings were originally built as warehouses back in the 19th century.

Many new structures in the area do not contain the distinguishable cast-iron facades and the solid steel structure of today. Property pieces are also considered large in this area because of these old warehouses.  Modern day construction happens on a regular basis in the area. A new 16-story building, at 10 Sullivan, is said to house a private pool worth $45 million, Curbed reported.

Tribeca - $2,573,041 average sale price

Tribeca comes in second place as the priciest residential area in New York. If SoHo has a lot of celebrity apartments, Tribeca is on the top of the list. If one wants to see stars doing their everyday thing along the restaurants and the boutique-lined streets, then this is the place to be.

From Jon Stewart to Jay-Z to Meryl Streep, one can see them all here, the NY Post reported. Architecture wise, it is very similar to SoHo, with its historical, old school, cast-iron warehouses. A huge loft was recently sold for $5.425 million, that formerly stood on an olive oil and feta factory.

Flatiron District - $1,450,000 average sale price

Named after the historic Flatiron Building at 5th Avenue and Broadway, the place graces the third spot for the priciest area in New York City. This area is known for Jennifer Lopez, Chelsea Clinton and Jeff Gorder. The penthouse of a condo tower being constructed at 45 East 22nd Street is said to go for $40 million.
