When Maggie Cutts realized that the Norwood villa she bought was infested with termites, she had two choices- restore it into a regular home or turn it into a nautical-themed home that she had always wanted.
Cutts decided to get her dream nautical home instead of a standard three-bedroom Edwardian villa. She started working on the home in 2003 adding oars, sailing ropes, lamps, portholes and others.
But one highlight for the house is a sailing boat that is floating above the ground floor of the 5 Harris St home. It has a 347 sq.m. area featuring a two-storey backyard studio, a garden with fruit trees, and two-bathrooms.
“When I made the decision, I thought who would not want to live in a boat?” 69-year-old Cutts said according to The Advertiser. “My brother had a rainbow yacht and as a teenager growing up I loved being out on the ocean and in the wind. In terms of the design (of the home), I like big, airy spaces … and I think I have done a damn good job”.
But after her dedication for the Pauline Hurren-designed home, Cutts needed to transfer to New South Wales and the house is up for sale between $848,500 and $924,500.
“So much thought has gone into this place and I have often found myself sitting and marveling at what we have achieved,” Cutts said. “There is not a lot of joy in saying goodbye. But whoever falls in love with this place next is going to have so much fun.”
The house is listed under Husli Real Estate agent Irusia Armattoe who commented that the home will be perfect for "creative-minded young professionals or a family with a teenage child." She added that the house was already checked by artists, architects and graphic designers and all of them were "blown away" by the design of the house.
