The recently concluded Consumer Electronic Show or CES was an eyeful for attendees as they witness first-hand the latest innovations in communications, gaming, entertainment and home security. One of the most interesting categories in the conference was the "Internet of Things" or IoT -- products that are able to connect to the web and use phone apps to connect to a service. There are countless devices of all kinds and in home security, there were devices that can control lighting, indoor temperature, home appliances and even devices that can control your general state of health, a report from PJMedia.com said.
There are video cameras that enhance security by allowing the user to monitor his home or office while he is away. Cameras from as affordable as $50 to high end ones for $300 were showcased all of which can connect to the web and access a live video image of the area monitored for real-time monitoring. Video cameras with all the latest features such as motion detection, email alerts, cloud access and so much more were all displayed at the largest gathering of consumer electronics brands in the world.
Two of the most promising video camera systems were featured in the PJMedia.com report. First was the Izon which is a cylindrical camera that measures only an inch. It has an adjustable magnetic base that allows users to install it anywhere. It is unobtrusive, small and feature-packed such as sound and motion detection, cloud access and affordable for only $40.
The second video camera system was the Guardzilla which is larger and more intrusive. It also features motion detection, live image view and expandable memory. This is affordable at $100 however it has a few flaws. Wi-Fi connectivity is troublesome plus the motion detection feature may not work 100 percent of the time. This is bulkier and is impossible for stealth monitoring.
All in all, some video cameras were impressive while some lack the features that homeowners are looking for. The best part about installing your own system is you get to choose which one is best for your home. A review of the most popular video camera units may be the best way to start.
