Spring is fast approaching and while your bills may have shot up during the winter months because of all that heating, there are some DIY home projects you can take on to save money in the coming months.
Spring is the best season to do most (if not all) of your DIY home projects and routine maintenance checks. It is also the best time to do some of your home renovation plans, if you have been dreaming of getting yourself a beautiful lawn to welcome your guests at home.
According to US News, there are a couple of things you need to check during Spring in order to save you money in the long run.
The outlet noted that while you are focused on maintaining the heat during the winter months, spring is all about ventilation and air conditioning. Because of this, it is important to have these checked by an HVAC professional.
Hiring a professional to do the job can be costly, but doing so will also help you save in the long run, as maintaining it is fairly cheaper than buying a new one.
Spring is also the best time to check for leaks, dirt and clogs. According to the outlet, dirt can easily clog your roof, vents and other pipes, especially after the winter season.
Clean the gutters and check for any leaks in the roof. Also, check the washing machine and the dryer vent for any cracks and dusts, which can lead to mold problems and other issues later on.
Spring is also the time when most homeowners unleash their gardening skills. While having a beautifully landscaped lawn is good, Forbes noted that adding individual plants is too costly.
"Individual plants, at $5 to $15 each, can really add up if you want to line a walkway or the front of a house," said Harrison Wilson, co-owner of L&H Construction.
Instead of buying plants, Wilson recommended on planting seeds and taking care of them on your own to cut off the cost.
