The Chinese New Year is almost here, and people who want to join in the celebrations have a host of places and events to check out in New York. These Chinese New Year 2016 events vary greatly; from grand parades, to fireworks show, workshops related to Chinese New Year, music festivals and more, travelers will surely find something fun to do during the holiday.

Here are some of the events you can check out, as compiled by am New York.

Lunar New Year Parade and Festival

The Chinese New Year 2016 won't be complete without a parade featuring a Chinese dragon. Those who want to witness such can head to Manhattan's Chinatown which holds an annual Lunar New Year parade. On Feb. 14 at 1 pm, the parade will start from Mott and Canal streets and pass through Chatham Square, East Broadway and Manhattan Bridge. Admission is free.

Fireworks Show Over Hudson River

Those who want to witness and enjoy a spectacular display of fireworks during the Chinese New Year can head to the Hudson River on Feb. 6. The China Central Academy of Fine Arts will hold a fireworks show there this Chinese New Year 2016, along with a "live simulcast of music" by Chinese composer Tan Dun. In line with this, if you want to watch the fireworks from a different perspective, you can join Circle Line Cruises' first Chinese New Year cruise where you can enjoy 12-course buffet while watching the fireworks. The cruise is scheduled on Feb. 6, 5 pm, and costs $140 per person.

Meanwhile, if you want to truly celebrate the Chinese culture, you can head to Kennedy Center which will feature traditional Chinese performances and arts and crafts, as reported by The Washington Times. Here, the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra conducted by maestro Muhai Tang will make their debut.
