A family who previously owned a Westport House in Ireland was forced to sell it after 300 years.

According to The Irish Times, the Browne family decided to sell their beautiful and historic home also known as the Westport House for $11.2 million. The property is well-known among locals and tourists alike because it houses the family-friendly Pirate Adventure Park that comes complete with rides, slides and other types of activities.

"The listing comes ten years after a large chunk of the property was put up as security for a loan, which was ultimately affected by recession, leaving the family unable to save the estate," the publication noted.

According to the Daily Mail, one of the Browne family members Sheelyn expressed their sadness over their decision. However, they believe that they don't have any other option at the moment.

"This is a very sad and emotional day for our family as we have done everything in our power to try to save the House and Estate over the last eight years, but now have to admit defeat in this battle as we have neither the resources or the energy to continue," she said.

Browne added that they are hopeful that the new owners will make it a point to keep the property open for guests from all parts of the world.

In other news, the Mayo City Council is reportedly looking into trying to buy the property using a loan on the estate to make sure that the property will remain open for guests.

Westport House first opened to the public in 1961. Since then, it has become one of the most popular and favorite attractions in Ireland. As of late, the property is still open, so visiting it as soon as you can will be a really good idea.
