With the rise of many smart appliances, the consumers participated in a survey to know what they think about these new utilities.
In a survey titled The Smart Home Customer Experience: Repairing a Broken Promise, 3,000 consumers were asked about the current state of the appliances that they have in their homes. Most of the respondents said that they have bought smart entertainment appliances for their home. It was also revealed that people usually buy smart appliances for safety purposes. Potential buyers revealed that they would consider buying smart appliances for energy efficiency as well as convenience.
However, many of the respondents raised some concerns regarding these smart appliances. According to Curbed, the survey revealed that many of the respondents had an issue with the cost and time of the smart appliances.
About 42 percent of the respondents said that the price of installation and the maintenance of many smart appliances are the biggest issues for them. About 79 percent of the potential buyers said that the cost involved in these smart appliances, including the purchase, set-up and maintenance, is the main reason why they do not want to buy these items. It was also revealed that many buyers are not only concerned about the installation and maintenance as many of them are also frustrated with the set-up and configurations of the appliances.
According to the report, the dissatisfaction of the consumers comes from four key areas: complexity, cost, self-service and support. Many of the potential buyers think that smart home systems can be deterrent for them with the complexity of the installation and configuration; they think that these items may not be worth their money.
With this report, the buyers urge the manufacturing companies to create smart appliances that are less complex and are also cost- and time-effective. For manufacturers, it is important to give a positive customer experience so that they can attract future buyers.
