The Carbisdale Castle in Scotland, which overlooks the Kyle of Sutherland, was supposed to be built as a five-star hotel. However, recent reports state that the project has been cancelled, and the castle is now back in the market.
According to The Press and Journal, the plan to build the luxury hotel in Scotland has collapsed, as confirmed by the building owners Scottish Youth Hostel Association (SYHA). The original plan last year includes the establishment of a Michelin-starred restaurant in the castle. However, SYHA said that "the deal with Aberdeen Capital Ltd was off amid 'growing concerns' that the sale would be completed."
"SYHA has now ceased negotiations with Aberdeen Capital Ltd to purchase Carbisdale Castle for development as a five star resort hotel. This difficult decision has been taken after protracted and complex negotiations and more recently as a result of growing concerns as to the likelihood of the sale ultimately being achieved," a spokesperson said. "SYHA intends to place the castle back on the open market at the earliest opportunity to find another suitable purchaser.
Back in April 2015, BBC reported that the new owners of Carbisdale Castle were looking to spend £6.5m to turn the property into a luxury hotel. The prospective owners then was called Carbisdale Castle Ltd.
"Our aim is simple - we want to create one of Scotland's luxury hotels and if we can become No 1 so be it," Kevin Keenan, a spokesperson of the company, said last year. "Carbisdale Castle is a majestic building and we have spent a considerable amount of time, money and resources to plan how we can both respect its grandeur yet still transform it into a five star luxury destination hotel that will rival any hotel offering in Scotland."
According to The Press & Journal, Aberdeen Capital Ltd was not named as the supposed new owners of the castle when the plan for the luxury hotel was revealed.
