James Cameron, the director of the upcoming film "Avatar 2," has not said much about the movie. However, rumor has it that his love for aquatic life might compel him to create an underwater world for the movie, claims Cross Map.
"Part of my focus in the second film is in creating a different environment - a different setting with Pandora," Cameron said. "And, I'm going to be focusing on the ocean on Pandora, which will be equally rich and diverse and crazy and imaginative, but it just won't be in a rain forest. I'm not saying we won't see what we've seen already. We'll see more of them as well."
Fans will be happy to know that majority of the main cast members of the original movie already agreed to reprise their roles in the second installment, namely Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and Sam Worthington. Despite this news, there remains no official confirmation whether these celebrities will be staying until the very end.
According to iSchoolGuide, "Avatar 2" is actually the first sequel in a four-installment deal. It will be exploring the vast oceans of the planet, Pandora, which was first introduced in the first film as a "fictional moon."
To date, the rumor mill claims that the plot is "still undergoing changes." This could only mean that the upcoming movie might actually not end up placing more of its focus on the planet's aquatic life. However, the movie will reportedly still be largely pro-environment and continue to tackle environmental issues, just like the first film.
"Avatar" did extremely well back in 2009 that it got nine Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. It took home three awards for cinematography, art direction, and visual effects. It was also dubbed as the highest grossing film in history, beating "Titanic," which was also directed by Cameron. His take on this film introduced the public into a whole new world of modern digital film.
Having created the No. 1 grossing film of all time, it is only understandable that studios are prepared to give him all the time he needs to decide whether he wants to take part in the next project. In this case, Cameron decided to make three more, says Haute Living.
Another report from Cross Map states that Cameron confirmed to making three more sequels for the "Avatar" franchise. He had to push back the original 2015 release of "Avatar 2" to a year later because he is reportedly working on all three sequels simultaneously, and will be releasing them to the public one after the other.
