The second half of "The Walking Dead" Season 5 nears its official premiere and fans all over the world are surely getting even more excited by the hour. AMC has recently released a two-minute sneak peek into what fans can expect when the show returns, which Christian Post says will only be having eight episodes.
The video proved that the show will involve more gruesome drama, especially as Beth Greene, played by Emily Kinney, died in the previous episode before the show went into break. Fans of the show have a lot of speculations on what could happen, since the only thing they know, as of now, is that Rick Grimes, played by Andrew Lincoln, and the rest of the team, will be mourning Beth's death.
1. The team will be taking a "slight detour."
AMC provided a summary for the eighth episode of Season 5, as reported by The International Business Times. The upcoming episode, "What Happened and What's Going On," will most likely show the team regrouping after their "recent trials."
"They absolutely have to find some place safe," show-runner Scott Gimple told The Hollywood Reporter. We have this group of people and they have nowhere to go. They have to find somewhere to go, someplace that they can stay."
The "some place safe" that Gimple was referring to might as well be the Alexandria Safe-Zone, where they will be meeting more significant characters, such as Aaron, Eric, and Douglas Monroe. According to the comic book, it is a community of houses that is located six miles from Washington, DC.
Plus, TV Line says that Ross Marquand from "Mad Men" will be a new addition to the cast. According to the report, he will be portraying the role of Aaron, an Alexandria resident. It was teased last November, as reported by a separate TV Line report, that a "prominent" gay character will be joining the team soon.
Sadly, Gimple declined to say anything further about the Alexandria angle, but he did reveal that the show is "nearing that point in the comics where things change."
2. There is a shift in group morale as some of them are on the "verge of giving up."
Norman Reedus, who plays the role of Daryl Dixon, confirmed to Entertainment Weekly, as reported by iDigitalTimes, that his character is deeply wounded by the death of his close friend, Beth. "He goes into a depression," he said. "And he'll slowly seep back into a dark place, which sucks."
He also dished that Maggie Greene, played by Lauren Cohan, will have the darkest change of all. According to him, fans will "see her at a place where she is actually ready to give up."
Robert Kirkman, the creator of "The Walking Dead," has confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that the upcoming episode will be "a fan-favorite episode in a lot of ways, and it's going to be a fan-hated episode in a lot of ways."
3. There is a new villain.
The group might be facing off with Negan next. According to The Hollywood Take, there were spoilers about him in the recently released poster. In its top left corner, the smokestacks could be his headquarters, where he leads his own set of people.
"He is just like the coolest f***ing character on the planet," Executive Producer David Alpert said in an AMC interview, as reported by Design & Trend. "You thought the Governor was bad news? Wait until you meet Negan! He's one of the greatest villains ever created."
"The Walking Dead" Season 5 returns AMC on Feb. 8, Sunday.
