Three years since the science fiction film, "Prometheus," came out, a sequel is finally in the works. Reports are circulating that the much awaited follow up to the movie will not have "xenomorphs" on it as originally expected.
According to Crossmap, director of the film Scott Ridley announced that the sequel to his 2012 film would not feature any of the xenomorphs seen in the last part of the movie. Ridley is keen on keeping the movie set apart from his 1979 work, "Aliens," and opted to keep the upcoming movie free from these familiar creatures.
Many viewers of "Prometheus" viewed it as a prequel to "Aliens" because of the last scene, which showed the creature shortly. However, it seems that Ridley has had enough of that storyline and wants to explore other creatures or characters in the second movie.
Speaking to Screenrant, the director said, "The beast is done. Cooked. I got lucky meeting H.R. Giger all those years ago. It's very hard to repeat that."
Ridley added that after a few years, making a movie from centering on the space creature "wears out a bit."
"There's only so much snarling you can do. I think you've got to come back with something more interesting," said the director. "And I think we've found the next step. I thought the Engineers were quite a good start."
While Ridley promised not to bring the xenomorphs into the sequel, it seems that a new creature would take center stage in "Prometheus 2," said Master Herald.
Cinema Blend reported that Ridley told The Australian that he plans to "reintroduce a fresher form of alien in the third act."
However, the director offered no further explanation or description of this "new alien" and fans would have to wait until the movie or the trailer comes out to see this.
Meanwhile, Noomi Rapace, who played Elizabeth Shaw in the movie, hinted that she might have an idea what type of characters would be encountered next in the sequel.
"I know that Elizabeth Shaw want to go to paradise... She can't go to Earth. There's nothing left for her there, really. She wants to go where they cam from," said Rapace.
When asked what she thinks of Ridley's plan for her character and the story, the actress added, "God? The devil? ... or I don't know where he's going to take us."
While Rapace is uncertain where her character would journey next in "Prometheus 2," Ridley offered another hint on what fans could expect.
Slashfilm detailed that the director would be "getting away from gods and dragons" in his sequel.
"If I see one more dragon, I'm going to shoot myself. Stop the dragons," said Ridley.
"Prometheus 2" is scheduled to hit theaters in 2016.
