'Avengers 2: Age of Ultron' Release Date & Trailer: Black Widow's Past a Plot Focus? Yes Says Scarlett Jo

As the release date of "Avengers: Age of Ultron" draws closer, fans are learning more about the possible storyline the film will follow.

According to Scarlett Johansson, Black Widow herself, the "Avengers" sequel will give fans a greater appreciation of the life of her character. Speaking to W Magazine, via ComicBook.com, the actress revealed many were surprised she wanted to be a female superhero.

"People were surprised that I wanted to play a comic book heroine," said the new mom to the publication. "But I loved Iron Man, and I met with Marvel to see what was possible. I had done my research, and the Black Widow character resonated with me. She is dark and has faced death so many times that she has a deep perspective on the value of life."

The "Lucy" actress further elaborated that it was that particular perspective which fans will become acquainted to in the upcoming blockbuster. "In the sequel, you learn more about the sadness in her past," said the beautiful actress.

Unlike Iron Man, Thor and Captain America, the Black Widow doesn't possess any special powers or magical abilities. Her skills, like that of Hawkeye, come from a life of experience that provided her with special skills she needed to succeed in her field of intelligence.

"I think of her that way," explained the actress who still thinks of her character as a superhero. "Black Widow is a superhero, but she's also human. She's small, but she's strong. It's hard not to admire her."

"We all try to fight the forces of evil. Like Black Widow, you have to keep trying. The challenge is always there."
