'iPhone 6S', 'iPhone 7' Release Date, Specs & Features: Camera To Disappoint, New Leak Says Still 8MP Camera?

Are you excited for the next-generation iPhone due out in 2015? While Apple has hit it out of the park with its iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus released fall 2014, new reports indicate the new device won't have a camera upgrade.

According to Taipei Times via G for Games, the new iPhone will come with a less-than-attractive 8-megapixel rear camera.

As it stands, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus both come loaded with 8-megapixel cameras. Some fans who are holding out for the next-generation smartphone were hoping for an upgrade that would boost the phone's capacity to at least 13-megapixels -- but it seems this won't be the case.

The Taipei Times quoted Yuanta Securities Investment Consulting Co. analyst Jeff Pu who shared that Apple is keen on retaining the 8-megapixel snapper as the trend across electronics brands is to hold back on camera upgrades.

Pu notes that Apple, along with other firms who were expected to boost their devices from 16 to 20-megapixels, won't be enhancing its shutter specs this year's phones due to supply concerns.

The site also notes that Apple's under-10 megapixel camera has wowed the public with its high-quality camera, a major feat as its competition are already equipping their devices with 16-megapixel specs.

A number of sites have noted that camera quality has little to do with sensor resolution. Per iPhoneHacks, "Even though the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus come with an 8MP sensor, they perform better than the Galaxy Note 4, LG G3 and other Android smartphones that feature significantly higher resolution sensors. In fact, it is Apple's combination of an 8MP sensor and larger 1.5u pixels that help the new iPhones in shooting such stellar photos."

The site further added that even if Apple doesn't upgrade its megapixels, by switching to "an F/2.0 or F/1.8 aperture and add OIS to the iPhone 6s to further improve the image quality of the handset without bumping the camera resolution at all."

Upcoming iPhone 6S or iPhone 7?

There is a lot of speculation surrounding the upcoming iPhone. Many analysts believe that the next iPhone, expected to be named either the iPhone 6S or the iPhone 7, will launch in September of this year.

However, other sources indicate that we could see two separate release dates for two separate iPhones. Unlike this year's dual model release last September, in 2015, its possible that an iPhone could be released with the Apple Watch due out by April and another release in September, the firm's regular release date.
